These linen garters are featured in ‘Rural Pennsylvania Clothing’ by Ellen Gehret. If you are portraying an 18th or early 19th century working or middling class person, they are perfect for you! Brown and blue are two of the most common colors found in extant tapes, and checked patterns were extremely common. Garters like these would have been woven at home on a tape loom. Both men and women wore garters to hold up their stockings. These garters are sold as a pair and each one is 36” long and 1/4” wide. *Pictured with brown cotton stockings which are also available from Long Creek Mercantile.
